You're here because you've probably heard of cold emailing but are not really sure what it is. Or maybe, you have the best of intentions to start using this tool in your marketing efforts but don't know where to begin! Not every business owner has access to a full-time marketing team or even works with an agency. That's why I'm going to share five types of cold emails that will get you great results for your brand even without a million dollar budget.

Let's start with the basics - what exactly is cold emailing? Cold emailing is reaching out directly to prospects or past clients without an introduction from someone they already know. Some may think it’s pushy while others find it refreshing since oftentimes, it's the only way to get in touch with prospects. It can be challenging but it’s a great strategy for anyone who wants to succeed at sales and marketing.

It takes time, effort and an effective approach to see results from cold emailing . Before we jump into specific types of emails you can send to land partnerships like influencers and marketers, let's go over how these communications should look like:

Attractive subject line: Keep your subject lines short and sweet; around 60 characters or less. Avoid using words such as “free” or “report” because they're not very descriptive. Appealing template: I'm sure you've seen an email that makes you want to hit delete without opening it. Use a template that's nice to look at and easy to follow. Information about the business you're emailing: This should go without saying but make sure you have their name spelled correctly! Also, I recommend doing your research before deciding on what information to include in this section. Offer value: The goal of cold emailing is to build relationships with partners who are interested in your services or products. If there are no mutual benefits for both parties, then it won't work out the way you'd planned it.

Once you've gathered all of these pieces, try using one of the five types of partnership emails listed below - they're proven to generate results time and time again!

1. The "I’m Looking For" Email

This is the most common type of cold email that people use to land partnerships. You can use it whether you're looking for affiliates, press coverage or other business partners . But before you start typing up an email to your favorite influencers, take some time to establish who they are and what they do - this information should be included in your initial outreach. Keep them short and include a call-to-action at the end of each email so it's not too overwhelming. Here's an example:

Hey Keith , It's great to connect with you again! I'm currently working on my new blog about personal branding tips that will help small businesses . I'm looking for people with great personal style to interview for the launch, do you think you will be available next week?

Another example -

Hi Stefanie,I follow your blog on Instagram and I really admire what you're doing with your brand! I love the way you've designed your website - it's very user-friendly. I saw that you give tips to other bloggers through workshops and seminars; could we set up a 20 minute call to discuss how I can build my audience?

2. The "Thank You" Email

This particular type of partnership email is a great way to thank a blogger or influencer for featuring your business in their posts, newsletters or social media updates . While many might think this strategy is too simple and doesn't work, it has proven to be effective time and time again. If you want to thank someone for featuring your work, I recommend using this email template:

Hi , Thank you so much for featuring my website as one of your favorite home decor sites on your blog! It's such an honor to receive recognition from an entrepreneur like yourself. I'm looking forward to continuing our relationship in the future. Best regards, Sarah.

Hi Zack ! I just wanted to reach out and thank you for mentioning us on your website (link). Your readers enjoyed reading about our new line and we appreciate all the love that comes with representing a brand like yours. We look forward to working together in the future!

 3. The "I'm Not Sure"

For the sake of brevity, we'll call this type of cold emailing - "I'm not sure if you've got room for another brand on your site but I wanted to reach out and show you what we do." This is best used when reaching out to bloggers and influencers who already feature a number of brands in their posts; it can also be sent before signing up with an affiliate program.

Hey , I'm not sure if you've got room for another brand on your website but I wanted to reach out and show you what we do for fun. If you're interested, here's our new Spring Lookbook: (link) Thanks for taking a look!

Hi Ash ! I stumbled across your website the other day and it has really helped me with making my new business plan. Have you ever thought of including video tutorials on your site? We've found that they generate significant engagement among our target audience. No pressure, just wanted to show you what we do!

5. The "I'm On A Deadline"

This type of cold email is useful when you're looking for more press coverage but don't have much time to spare. Here's a template to use:

Subject Line

Hey Corey , I was wondering if you had a few minutes this week to talk about my new product launch via phone call/Skype chat/email? We're launching our Kickstarter campaign in 4 days and think your readers would be interested in it. Thanks!

Hi Adam ! We're currently working on the second draft of our whitepaper and I wanted to bounce an idea off you if possible. What do you think about creating a video explaining how blockchain technology works, including examples of how it could apply to entertainment? We'd love to get your take - if not now, perhaps later this month?

What to expect

The reality is that you’re not going to hear back from most people you reach out to. Don’t take it personally. Just keep on finding new prospects and sending personalized emails, and eventually things will fall into place. Keep it consistent and keep it personal, and you’ll be well on your way with these partnership email templates.
