What Is An Elevator Pitch

The elevator pitch is a short summary of what you do, who your audience is and how you can help them. Essentially, they are the first few minutes of meeting someone. 

Elevator pitches serve as a way to introduce yourself and are usually done during a job interview or networking event. They are the first words you speak with your prospective client, and they will help you gain a better understanding of what this person needs, as well as who they are as a person.

The point is, you haven’t had a chance to craft this first impression because you haven ’t been given the chance. And that’s where your elevator pitch comes in. It has to be better than what most people say. If you can’t sell yourself, no one else will be able to do it for you. 

And that goes for everything from getting a job to asking someone out on a date. So, what are you going to do about it?Pick five people that you know that have done well in their careers, and ask them what they did to get where they are.

How To Write A Good Elevator Pitch

To write an effective elevator pitch, you need to include the following elements:

 

1. Keywords – The best way to get people's attention is by using keywords that describe your product or service. 

You should be sure to use these keywords in your elevator speech if you want it to have maximum impact on listeners' ears. 

If not, then they will probably tune out and move onto another speaker who uses a more interesting phrase such as "a new app for mobile devices." (I know I do!) Your audience might also look at their watch and think "Ugh…this guy has been talking for 15 minutes! I'll just go to the next speaker."

 

2. Benefits – The second part of your elevator pitch is a list of benefits that you offer. These benefits are what make your product or service unique and better than other products in the same field. 

For example, if you're selling software, then it's important that you include something about how easy it will be to use and learn on day one (the first impression) as well as some information about its capabilities later down the road (after they've become more familiar with using your program). 

 

Here's an example :

"Our software makes it easier for small businesses to manage their finances and keep track of all the important tasks they need completed. It's easy to use, has a user-friendly interface that is designed with simplicity in mind, and comes with an unlimited number of customizable reports." 

 

3. Unique Selling Proposition – The third part of your elevator pitch should be about what makes you stand out from other companies offering similar products or services (your unique selling proposition). 

This can be as simple as "We're different!" or more complex such as: "This product will save our customers money by eliminating unnecessary overhead costs."

 

4. Value Proposition – The fourth part of your elevator pitch is a statement about what you offer that's unique and valuable to the customer (your value proposition). 

For example, if you're selling software, then it might be as simple as "The program comes with over 100 pre-designed templates for our customers to use right out of the box" or more complex such as: "Our clients will save money by eliminating unnecessary overhead costs through this product."

 

5. Competition – Finally, your fifth and final point should include information on any other companies in your industry who are offering similar products or services. 

For example: "This product will save our customers money by eliminating unnecessary overhead costs."

Your elevator pitch should be short, sweet and to the point (this is a good idea for any sales presentation). It shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes to deliver.

If you're worried about sounding like an idiot while delivering your elevator pitch, then try it out on friends and family first before showing it in front of people who are important to you. 

Your goal with this presentation is not necessarily getting them interested enough that they'll want to buy from you but rather just making them curious enough to ask you more questions.


Tips On How To write a good Elevator Pitch

In order to get the most out of your elevator pitch, you need to practice it. You should do this at least once a week for about 20 minutes or more. 

In addition, you'll want to use an effective method when writing your speech so that people will pay attention and remember what you have said.

The following are some tips on how to write a good elevator pitch: 

 

1. List the Key Words and Phrases to Use in Your Pitch- These are words or phrases that will set your product apart from others, as well as provide a summary of what you have to offer. 

You can use these key words and phrases when writing your elevator pitch so that people remember it better than other pitches they might hear later on.

 

2. Create an Effective Opening Statement for Your Speech- The opening statement is where most people find themselves losing interest before they even get into their main point about why customers should buy from them. 

If you want people to pay attention, you need to give them a reason why they should listen and what will benefit them from listening.

 

3. Use Keywords in Your Opening Statement- This is where the magic happens! You want your words of interest, enthusiasm and excitement to draw customers into listening more closely so that they'll be interested enough in buying from you that they don't get distracted by other pitches or offers. 

It's also important for this statement not only to tell listeners about yourself but also how much time it would take for someone who wanted information on your product to go to another source.

 

4. Don't Use Excessively Long Words and Phrases- If you use too many long words or phrases, people won't have time to read them all before they begin losing interest in what you're saying.

In addition, if your speech is written with excessive amounts of unnecessary information that doesn't add value, people will be more likely to find other sources for the same kind of information.

 

5. Be Sure Your Speech Is Clear and Concise- When writing a sales pitch it's important that each sentence has only one main idea so that people will have a clear understanding of what you're trying to say. 

Make sure your speech is easy to understand by being concise and not using too many words.

 

6. Use Simple Language- If it's difficult for someone who does not speak English as their first language, or even if they do but are reading your pitch in translation, then the message won't be received clearly. 

In addition, make sure that the sentence structure doesn't change from one paragraph to another unless there is a major change in the meaning.

 

7. Don't Use Excessive Emotion- It's important to use appropriate emotion when speaking about your product and services but too much of it can be off-putting.

In addition, if you're trying to persuade someone into buying a specific item or service then don't try to convince them that they need what you are selling by using overly emotional language such as "You'll never find another one like this" or "This is the only way I know how." Instead, say something along the lines of " This is the only way I know how to make this product."

 

8. Be Authentic- It's important that you are authentic when speaking about your product and services because if people don't believe that you're telling the truth then they won't buy from or recommend you.

In addition, try to avoid making any claims about how much money a customer is going to make by using an overly dramatic sales pitch such as "If I had $40 million dollars at my disposal right now…" instead say something along the lines of " If I were able to invest this amount of money in a single project then I would be able to generate $40 million in sales."
